Event information

Caitlin McLeod directs a reading of Keffiyeh/Made in China by Dalia Taha.

‘In Taha’s work there is a continuous unsettlement to the world in which her ghostly characters are subjected, they are nameless, ageless, deprived of identity and forever uprooted and landless. Her writing, which unfolds within the innermost self of the characters, makes us feel the huge lack of horizon which every Palestinian experiences. At the same time, she paves a new and original feminine way for Arab theatre’ -Mohamed Kacimi.

The keffiyeh is an iconic image familiar to everyone in Palestine and thus a defining symbol of Palestine's national struggle. Keffiyeh/Made in China considers the prejudices and cliches about Palestinians and non-Palestinians, taking the symbol of resistance - the keffiyeh- as a starting point.

Dalia Taha was born in Berlin in 1986, but grew up in Ramallah (West Bank). This summer, Taha will be one of ten international writers chosen to participate in the Royal Court International Residency for Emerging Playwrights.

Caitlin McLeod has directed three critically acclaimed sell out productions at the Finborough Theatre. She was the winner of the prestigious Buzz Goodbody award for Best Director, and Trainee Director at the Royal Court Theatre from 2011-2012.

The reading is in association with the Royal Court Theatre.
